You have permission to rest. You are not responsible for fixing everything that is broken. You do not have to try and make everyone happy. For now, take time for you. It’s time to replenish. - Alyse Ruriani

Therapeutic Approach
I believe that each individual is the expert of their own story; it’s what they know best. I am here to help guide you by creating a safe, calm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen and heard. We all come from different walks of life and I believe our lived experiences shape our worldview. My perspective is that by connecting previously lived experiences to the present, we can better understand our current path and determine the future we want to work towards. I work from a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens, but utilize an eclectic therapeutic approach to individualize treatment based on your specific needs and the goals we identify. My most frequent modalities tend to include Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions-Focused Therapy (SFT), Somatic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, as well as harm reduction and crisis intervention strategies. I commend you for taking the first steps in seeking out support and resources in your journey of revitalization and healing, I’m honored to even be a small part of your journey.
Biography
I started my journey in the mental health field in Bradley University's Clinical Mental Health Program. During my time at my university, I worked in the school's Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and completed an internship in Illinois Central College's Counseling Department. After graduating with my Master's Degree, I began working as a therapist at a non-profit rape crisis center in the Peoria area. In this role, I worked with children and adults who have experienced sexual assault/abuse, domestic violence, unhealthy relationship dynamics, and other traumas. I have also supported clients in being a legal and medical advocate, where I've attended anything from ED visits to court related to these prior lived experiences. All this to say, I'm willing to take on any challenge with you.
Outside of work, I am a firm believer of being a lifelong learner. Not only do I attend my own therapy, but I also continue exploring what gives me meaning and fulfillment in life. Recently I've taken on the hobbies of embroidery and cross-stitching, adding to my beloved hobbies of crocheting, sewing, ceramics, and baking. My partner, dog, and three cats are a huge part of my life as well, so please show me photos of your pets and loved ones!
